The Rolex Daytona Ref 6263 AKA the “Big Red” is arguably one of the most sought-after vintage Rolex Daytona's in the Rolex Cosmography line up. The ref 6263 "Big Red" is iconic, timeless, & eye-catching when worn on the wrist.

 The Daytona name came in 1964/1965 when Rolex decided to brand the 6263 Cosmograph reference order to appeal to the auto racing culture of the USA and was also an official sponsor of the Daytona 500 auto race held in Daytona Beach, FL.

This specific 1979 example of the “Big Red” Daytona Ref. 6263 is downright stunning, with a matte black dial and offset white sub-dials sets the tone for the watch’s appearance. The watch really pops due to the three silver sub-dials on the matte black dial accompanied by the iconic red “Daytona” insignia adorned above the lower center subdial at the 6 o'clock position. The black bezel insert is in wonderful condition and frames the dial perfectly which adds to the piece's overall legibility while being worn on the wrist.

We love the vintage Cosmograph range of Rolex due to the fact that they have a high level of contrast which is something the modern Rolex Daytona range of timepieces has lost due to the completely monochromatic look of the dials found on today modern reference range. 

CASE & BRACELET

The sharp case is believed to remain unpolished showing factory dimensions and finishing with honest signs of use. The Mk.2 UPH acrylic bezel is in wonderful condition without signs of separation or cracking. The Mk.2 screw-down pushers and Rolex signed trip-lock crown remain original to the watch and in excellent condition. The Rolex 93150 Oyster bracelet with 571 end pieces is in great overall condition retaining 12 links and showing light stretch from use.

DIAL & HANDS

The matte black "Big Red" Daytona dial is exceptional showing no aging on the dial itself and the white sub-dials remain in excellent condition as well. All of the tritium lume plots remain full and round and have taken on a lovely creamy golden patina, under U.V. light inspection the lume plots remain fully intact showing no degradation. The tritium filled hands and subsidiary hands remain original to the watch, the hour and minute hand match the dial patina perfectly and exhibit no degradation under U.V. light inspection.

ACCESSORIES 

The watch comes with its original inner and outer boxes, guarantee paper, Daytona booklet, and translation paper. Watch is functioning and keeping time perfectly, previous service history is unknown.
